Yesterday Donald Trump announced a ban on all Transgender people serving 'in any capacity' in the U.S military over Twitter.

He cited 'tremendous medical costs' as being the reason for this move.

It is yet unclear what the timeline or how implementation of the ban will unfold, as well as whether there will be any official legislation to back up these Tweets.

The response on social media from celebrities has been overwhelming. Cher, Gigi Hadid, Kim Kardashian and many more took to Twitter and Instagram to voice their outrage, give their support to their Transgender followers, and attempt to debate the issue.

Gigi Hadid implored her followers to sign a petition against the potential ban:

Whilst other celebrities pointed out the Transgender community who have already been serving, and how bravely they fight:

Many voiced their concern that this was a thinly-veiled attack against an already vulnerable minority, with little to no basis.

And others pulled Trump up on his previous comments promising he would support the LGBT community.

Roxane Gay was swift to point out that, for many, this was not seen as a complete surprise:
