What could be better than a film starring Selena Gomez?
A film starring Selena Gomez and Elle Fanning, that's what.
The Hollywood Reporter reports the 25-year-old former Disney star is returning to the screen to star in an untitled project by Woody Allen, and will act alongside Fanning and Timothée Chalamet, who most recently starred opposite Armie Hammer in Luca Guadagnino's Oscar-tipped film Call Me by Your Name, out later this year.
The film will be the third film that Allen directs for Amazon Studios, and follows his up-coming project titled Wonder Wheel, starring James Belushi, Juno Temple, Justin Timberlake and Kate Winslet.
Gomez, who executive produced the hit Netflix series 13 Reasons Why to rave reviews, has previously starred in The Fundamentals of Caring and James Franco's In Dubious Battle, and recently voiced of Mavis in the upcoming Hotel Transylvania 3.
Meanwhile, Fannings's latest film venture saw her act opposite Nicole Kidman and Kirsten Dunst in Sofia Coppola's period drama thriller, The Beguiled.
The only fly in the ointment is the chosen director. Why is a young star like Gomez happy to work with a man who has been accused of sexually assaulting his infant daughter by ex-wife Mia Farrow?
Yet she isn't alone - the singer is simply following in the footsteps of Kate Winslet, Blake Lively, Kristen Stewart, Emma Stone, Cate Blanchett and Justin Timberlake - to name a few.
Here's the rub, Allen is a celebrated artist. Want to further your acting credentials? You're not going to turn down a role in one of his films.
There's a great piece on The Daily Beast talking about this very issue.
Either way, the film will probably be a huge hit...
