Forget Tom Holland, Henry Cavill, Andrew Garfield, and Gal Gadot for a moment.

The word on the street is that 2017 ELLE's Style Awards Man of the Year winner Riz Ahmed is reportedly in talks to join a Spider-Man spinoff film alongside Tom Hardy, and we're pretty sure it's Christmas come early.

Variety reports Ruben Fleischer (Gangster Squad) has been recruited to direct the Sony franchise film titled Venom, with Ahmed rumoured to play a popular Marvel Comics character.

While Sony is keeping schtum on the cast and Ahmed's role, it has revealed Venom won't be part of the Spider-Man franchise and will be a separate project entirely.

In the words of Marvel Comics, Venom is a major power player and has been one of Spider-Man's most important characters, who first made a film appearance in Spider-Man 3, played by Topher Grace.

Scott Rosenberg (Jumanji) and Jeff Pinkner (The Dark Tower) are also reported to be writing the script, with the film rumoured to be released in October 2018.

In the meantime, we might just have to bingewatch Ahmed's The Night Of, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and Girls and Hardy's Dunkirk and The Revenant, to get our weekly fix of the duo.

Someone grab the popcorn.
