Last night, at least 13 people were killed and 100 injured when a van struck pedestrians in the Las Ramblas area of Barcelona.

Spain's prime minister Mariano Rajoy described the incident as a 'jihadist attack' and the so-called Islamic State revealed it had carried out the brutal attack, reports the BBC.

Mr Rajoy has announced three days of national mourning and a minute's silence will be held later on Friday, amid news of a second vehicle attack in Cambrils early this morning.

Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and Liam Gallagher are among a list of A-list stars who have taken to social media to pay tribute to the victims of the attacks.
