Earlier this summer, George Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney welcomed the arrival of their twin babies, Alexander and Ella, with the actor recently gushing his wife was like an 'Olympic athlete' while fatherhood is 'terrifying'.

'Right now my job is changing diapers and walking them around a little bit,' Clooney admitted to the Associated Press. 'I really didn't think at 56 that I would be the parent of twins. Don't make plans. You always have to just enjoy the ride.'

And, for the first time, the 56-year-old has opened up about how his twins are already showing different character traits at home.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Suburbicon star explained - with the help of his co-star and BFF Matt Damon: 'They start out with a personality right off the bat. [Alexander] is a thug already. You saw him. He's a moose! Literally, he just sits and he eats.'

Matt jokingly added, 'he looks like he could bounce right now, some place in Hollywood', while George said he looks like he's 'checking IDs on the way into the nursery'.

Meanwhile, Ella sounds like she's identical to her human rights lawyer mother.

'She's very elegant, and all eyes. She looks like Amal, thank God,' he gushed.

Discussing the choice of his babies' names, the former ER actor said he didn't want to choose 'dumb' monikers for his famous pair.

'We just didn't want to have really dumb names. We figured these kids are going to be looked at a lot and watched and [have their] every move sort of judged, and we wanted them to at least have a break with the names.

'So we looked for some sort of normal names. We didn't have any great inspiration. It wasn't Alexander the Great and Ella Fitzgerald,' he added.

Opening up about the shock of becoming a father, the actor/director revealed: 'I suppose [the realest moment is] just the minute they came out. None of it is real until all of a sudden they're standing there covered in slime and crying.

'You're like, wait a minute, what is that? We were just two and now we're four. Everything changes pretty quickly.'

We can't wait to see how Ella and Alexander grow up in the years to come.
