Gal Gadot and Wonder Woman feel almost synonymous in our minds.

The Isreali actress and Diana of Themyscira are essentially the same arse-kicking feminist superhero.

Which makes it harder to imagine the 32-year-old Gadot being introduced to us via the big-screen in any other way.

Well, according to Gadot on The Hollywood Reporter's 'Awards Chatter' podcast, this was very nearly a reality. In excellent film trivia knowledge, her first major role was supposed to be Imperator Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road.

The actress explained that, for a while, she kept coming extremely close to big roles, including this one, except she wasn't enough of a 'name' yet.

Obviously, Charlize Theron most certainly is, hence why she nabbed the part.

Gadot explained:

I had so many almosts for big, great things, but I was never big enough of a name. It was always me and 'the big name,' she said. By then, I was married and I already had my first daughter, and going back and forth from Israel, and dragging everyone with me, and trying and feeling the pressure of, I'm coming here, now I've gotta book something! I've gotta get a role in something.

Firstly we can totally see Gadot being equally as good as Theron at playing Furiosa, and the pair do share a director in Patty Jenkins (Jenkins directed Monster and Wonder Woman).

But, who knows, maybe if Gadot had gotten Mad Max, she may not have nabbed Wonder Woman?

Hollywood works in mysterious ways.
