Having surpassed Taylor Swift to become the most followed person on Instagram, with 126 million followers, one can only imagine what it would feel like to be featured on the singer's Instagram feed.

However, for Elle Fanning - who will appear alongside Gomez and Jude Law in Woody Allen's up-coming film - the experience of being tagged in a post on the 25-years-old social media account is one she'll never forget.

Why? Because as introductions to Instagram go, this one was a baptism of fire.

Shortly after the announcement was made that Gomez and Fanning would be working together, the Texas-born star posted a photograph of Fanning with a stack of books on her head, unbeknown to the The Beguiled star.

What happened next was, let's say, something of a shock for Fanning.

'I woke up the next morning [thinking] like, "What happened to my Instagram?"' the actress told Vanity Fair at the Toronto Film Festival on Sunday.

'It was exploding with things. People were saying things and this photo kept popping up,' she added, after seeing the snap had garnered over two million 'likes'.

'I guess that's what happens when someone has like a billion followers, posts your face, and tags you,' Fanning laughed. 'It was insane!'

Having never actually met Fanning in person, when the 'Fetish' star finally came face-to-face with her co-star recently, she launched into an apology for making Fanning's Instagram account 'blow up'.

Fanning said: 'She was like, "I'm sorry I creepily posted the photo."'

'I said, "No! Keep doing it!" I'm getting more [followers]".'

The 19-year-old also revealed she's already begun filming with Allen and Gomez in Manhattan, New York.

'[Allen's] crew picks up the cast in these giant vans that come up to your apartment in New York. Sometimes you're the only person getting in the van.

'I think we are all really nervous but we are in it together. We have a group chat,' she added.

If you need an additional WhatsApp member in that chat, Elle, you know where we are.

After all, we love a good aubergine emoji.
