A documentary all about Meghan Markle, her family roots, and her romance with Prince Harry has finally been given a transmission date, and will air on Saturday, 28 October.

Following in the wake of Markle's ex-husband creating a 'divorce comedy' about a man being left for a prince, and the Suits star's half-sister Samantha Markle releasing a memoir all about the family, Channel 4's When Harry Met Meghan: A Royal Romance will document Markle's relationship with Harry, and the 'astonishing story of her ancestors'.

According to the broadcaster, the one-off programme will debut original genealogy research, with a press release stating:

It's an all-American tale of humble origins and triumph over adversity played out in the Deep South on her mother's side and in the Appalachian Mountains of Pennsylvania on her father's side.

It traces the first moment her father's ancestors arrived in America, with some very surprising results about where they came from.

The film will also also feature interviews with Meghan's friends and colleagues, and excerpts from royal experts who will be addressing whether the actress is ready to become part of the royal family.

In addition, it will examine how similar both Harry and Meghan are, despite their very different backgrounds and upbringing.

'Growing up, Meghan Markle's world was very different to Prince Harry's: the leafy suburbs of LA, with both her parents involved in the film industry,' the synopsis continues.

'Both Harry and Meghan's parents divorced when they were a similar age; Meghan's parents' divorce was amicable and both parents imbued her with strong humanitarian values.'

It adds: 'Meghan broke through as an actor with the TV series Suits, where she plays bi-racial paralegal Rachel Zane. But there's more to Meghan than acting: she's a feminist and a philanthropist and can be outspoken on political issues.

'In charisma and her commitment to causes, the royal figure who Meghan most resembles is probably Diana, who would have been her mother in law.'

It was recently reported that Markle had been introduced to the Queen by Prince Harry following rumours that a royal engagement is imminent.

In a personal essay written exclusively for ELLE UK last year, Markle detailed the pressures of being a celebrity, admitting: 'With fame comes opportunity, but it also includes responsibility.'

Let's hope this documentary is more celebratory than an intrusive invasion of privacy....

When Harry Met Meghan: A Royal Romance will air on Channel 4 pm Saturday, 28 October at 9pm.
