If you take an interest in US politics and think its day-to-day activities read like some kind of badly written reality TV drama, you're really in for a treat today.

Yesterday, hours before a luncheon between President Donald Trump and Senate Republicans, the Leader of the Free World embarked on a truly fist-biting Twitter exchange of messages with GOP Senator Bob Corker.

During the Twitter-spat, Trump slammed Corker, saying he 'couldn't get elected dog catcher in Tennessee', with the Senator responding that POTUS was an 'untruthful' president, a day after he told NBC the lunch at the Capitol to discuss tax reform was simply a 'photo op' for the president.

Another day, another offensive tweet in Trump's book, right?

Well, it appears things took a turn for the worse for the president (or better for the world, depending on how you look at it) as, on the way to the lunch, the president found himself ambushed by a protester who tossed Russian flags at the 71-year-old and shouted 'Trump is treason'.

The protestor was later identified as Ryan Clayton from Americans Take Action - an organisation campaigning for the impeachment of Trump - who received a classic Trump response to taunts about his integrity - a thumb's up.

But if you think the outburst caused outrage among Trump's colleagues, think again.

Following the protest, Senator Thom Tillis was seen grabbing himself a big ol' bucket of popcorn ahead of the meeting with the politician.

Perhaps he was expecting more drama to unfold and wanted to prioritise his snacks.

I mean, can you blame him?
