Prince William met some the UK's most courageous men, women and children at the 2017 Pride of Britain Awards in London on Monday night.

Before he took to the stage to present several awards, the prince spoke to some of this year's honourees, including five-year-old Suzie McCash. The young girl was just four-years-old when she saved her mother's life by dialling 999 and describing the situation to the emergency services when she collapsed and stopped breathing at their family home in Tynemouth.

He said: 'I have a four-year-old called George and if I gave him a telephone, I do not know what he would do.

'Do you know what, I'm going to have a conversation with my George about what to do because of what you've done - it's really important.'

William also praised the incredible efforts of the emergency services who responded to the Grenfell Tower fire. As he presented the firefighters with the Emergency Services Award in recognition of their bravery, the prince addressed the audience: 'We should all take a moment to understand and appreciate all emergency services personnel and what they achieve in their communities.'

Two Special Recognition Awards were also given out by the prince - to the Grenfell Community and to Manchester Medics who treated victims of the attack at the Ariana Grande concert in May. 'I can't say enough how proud I am of what you do on a daily basis,' he said, honouring the work of the medical team.

While some of the young people who were injured in the attack joined William on the stage, he added: 'The courage and spirit Manchester showed is a huge example to all of us.'
