Channing Tatum has always been open and honest about his stripper past - after all, it was the inspiration behind his hit Magic Mike movies.

But the 37-year-old actor has revealed that his dad, Glenn, only found out that he had been an exotic dancer when he gave Ellen Degeneres a lap dance on her chat show back in February 2010.

The Step Up star was sitting in for Jimmy Kimmel on his chat show last night (2 November) and chatting to Degeneres as he recalled: 'That was my very first time on your show, and I got to let you know that that was the very first time that my dad actually found out that I was a stripper for a short time.'

Footage from the pair's interview from 2010 featured a 30-year-old Tatum - who had stripped briefly in his teens - giving the comedian a mini lap dance and hip grind, while the audience screamed and cheered him on.

'Wait, your dad didn't know you were stripper until that day? How did he take it?' the presenter asked Tatum after the clip was aired.

'Not well....' Tatum admitted. 'Really, really not well.'

Earlier this year, Tatum went on to create a Vegas show which mirrors his Magic Mike films, explaining in a Facebook clip: 'God knows we have enough gentlemen's clubs in this world, so let's start the first gentle-ladies' club - or maybe not so gentle, depends on what you're into.'

Recalling his past as a stripper, Tatum - who is married to Jenna Dewan, with whom he has a young daughter Evelyn - has previously told People that he doesn't 'miss anything about stripping'.

'I stripped in Tampa for like 25 girls, at best,' he added. 'It wasn't glamorous whatsoever, so there's nothing that I miss about stripping.'
