If you've ever had an ex, a colleague or friend write something really mean about you, so much so that you've bent down on your knees, looked up to the sky - arms wide - and yelled for the perfect punishment for said cold-hearted behaviour, well, we think we might have found the perfect solution.

The Associated Press reports a Maui judge in Hawaii has handed down one of the most unorthodox (yet brilliant) sentences to a 30-year-old man who pleaded no contest to violating his ex-girlfriend's protection order not to contact her.

On Friday, Judge Rhonda Loo reportedly ordered Daren Young to write 144 compliments about his ex-girlfriend, in response to the 144 'nasty' text messages and calls that he is accused of sending her.

The ex boyfriend had reportedly attempted to call and text his ex-partner 144 times over a three-hour period on 22 May, the Maui News reports, violating a protection order issued in February following their split.

'It's so childish to think a grown man can be so thumb-happy,' said Judge Loo, according to the Telegraph.

'I don't know whether I should cut off your fingers or take away your phone to get you to stop texting.

'You probably shouldn't get a phone, period. I hope she changed her number,' she added.

And in the most Harry Potter's Dolores Umbridge-inspired punishments yet, the judge also pointed out that Young isn't allowed to repeat words when writing a 'nice thing' for every 'nasty thing' he wrote.

The Maui News reports the accused had already spent 157 days in jail previous to Loo's sentencing and pleaded no contest to 16 counts of violating the protection order.

As well as the 144 compliments - which he aptly has 144 days to write- Loo also sentenced the man to two years of probation, £1,810 in fines and 200 hours of community service.

Proof that no bad deed goes unpunished.
