Prince Harry has made a joke about hiding girlfriend Meghan Markle as he attempted to swerve a cheeky question about the actress' whereabouts during a public engagement.

The 33-year-old royal was paying his respects at Westminster Abbey's Field of Remembrance in London when he spoke with bomb disposal expert Matt Weston, who couldn't resist probing him about the Suits star.

'I took the mickey and asked where his missus was and he said she wasn't here,' Watson told reporters (via Hello!).

'I asked if she would come next time because she's awesome, and he said he couldn't hide her anywhere, but I said you wouldn't have to hide her.

'I would love to meet her – I think she's very cool. He's a very lucky man and she's brilliant,' he added.

Harry also stopped to speak to seven-year-old Harrison Degiorgio-Lewis, whose uncle Lieutenant Aaron Lewis was killed in Afghanistan in 2008.

The royal remembered Harrison from previously meeting him at the Abbey last year, with his grandmother Helen Lewis adding: 'Harrison has been coming here for four years now to represent his uncle.

'Harry recognised him – they have a bond, as they share a birthday. Harry asked him about his uncle Aaron, and he said how proud he was.'

Meanwhile, it's been reported that Harry has introduced Markle to the Queen over a cup of tea at Buckingham Palace, prompting rumours that a royal engagement is imminent. Fingers crossed...

It was also recently disclosed that Harry had a serious crush on Markle for two years before they even met, making it all the more like a real-life fairytale.
