As Christmas approaches, little girls across the world will undoubtedly be adding one big ask from Father Christmas this year - pierced ears.

Growing up, a pierced ear was widely considered a sign of maturity, fashion and one step closer to having the Christina Aguilera's 'Can't Hold Us Down'-inspired hoop earrings that we all so highly coveted.

However, unlike many parents out there who forbid piercings until a certain age or ban the decision altogether, model Chrissy Teigen is taking a more laid-back approach when it comes to her one-year-old's ear adornments.

In an interview with E! News at the Forevermark Tribute Collection launch on Tuesday night, the Sports Illustrated star admitted: '[Luna] doesn't have her ears pierced and I'm going to let her decide when she wants to do that.'

The decision comes from her own experience with begging her mum to allow her to have her ears pierced.

'I remember when I was little what I went through. My mom did it for me,' she recalled.

Fortunately for baby Luna, Chrissy also has plans to pass down some beautiful pieces of jewellery for her, as and when she decides to get her ears pierced.

'I would love to be able to give Luna maybe a customized piece of jewelry. I think there's something really beautiful about her name—the way it's written,' the model added.

'I think when John and I were picking a name, we wanted something that sounded beautiful. Of course, John is big on the sound of things.'

Explaining the choice behind her daughter's Spanish name, Teigen said: 'I was thinking more about how it was written and it's just so feminine and so beautiful the way you write it, that I love it in like maybe a nameplate necklace or something would be so cute on her.'

When it comes to her own favourite pieces of jewellery, however, there's one thing in particular that stands out to Teigen.

'Obviously my engagement ring!'

I mean, can you blame her? Just look at the thing!
