Yesterday the Americans celebrated Thanksgiving. A holiday which, sweepingly, lauds the conquering of a new America, at the expense of thousands of Native American lives.

And you have to eat a competitively large turkey to mark the occasion.

Don't ask us.

Another kooky element of the holiday is that the President himself must 'pardon' a turkey that is presented to him. The pardoning of the turkey has a long and confusing history that you can read about here.

Anyway, prior to Thanksgiving, Donald Trump met with Drumstick, a 16kg turkey from Alexandria, Minnesota.

It was Trump's first (and hopefully last) turkey pardoning, and he really knocked it out of the park.

When Trump observed Drumstick alongside wife Melania and youngest son, Barron, he was amazed by the bird's size saying, 'wow, big bird.'

He went on to ask Drumstick's handlers how much it weighs and whether he could touch it, 'Am I allowed to touch it?', he pondered before stroking the saved poultry saying, 'I feel so good about myself doing this.'

Even engaging the oversized turkey in conversation, asking, 'Are you ready for this Drumstick?' Before gallantry declaring, 'Drumstick, you are herby pardoned.'

Truly riveting stuff.

And thanks to one eagle (or should we say turkey?) - eyed Twitterer, we got to really appreciate this moment for its hilarity.

Liz Plank, who goes by the cracking handle @feministabulous, posted a subtitled snap of the pardoning with the caption, 'tfw you realise trump respects turkeys more than women.'

The scathing Tweet has gone viral, accruing at least 162k likes and 66k retweets so far.

And yes, everyone made the same Access Hollywood Tape - based gag (or gobble?):

With increasing accountability coming from many industries regarding sexual harassment, hopefully it's only a matter of time until the White House has it's own purge.
