Jelena fans might be rejoicing at news of a reconciliation between Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber following their high-profile split in 2014, but it appears not everyone is excited by the pair's romance.

TMZ reports that 25-year-old Selena Gomez's mother, Mandy Teefey, was taken to hospital last week for a voluntary 'welfare' check-up after she is said to have 'flipped' over Gomez's intensifying relationship with Bieber.

According to publication, police visited Teefey at a hotel in Los Angeles for a check-up after being notified by a family member that something was up.

It's reported that Teefey was taken to the hospital for treatment but that she was not placed under a 5150 (an involuntary psychiatric hold).

Sources apparently tell TMZ that the hospitalisation has come as a result of a 'heated' discussion Teefey had with her eldest daughter after the 'Fetish' singer reportedly admitted she was in couples therapy with the 'Sorry' singer.

Earlier this month, PEOPLE reported that the actress/singer's family 'is still not happy' about the pair's on-again relationship, days after Gomez was spotted enjoying a romantic weekend away with her Canadian beau in Seattle.

Teefey, who has yet to confirm TMZ's report, took to Instagram on Monday to share an emotional message about Scarlett, the child she lost to miscarriage in 2011.

'Thank you to all the fans who honoured our Scarlett yesterday,' Teefey wrote, alongside photographs of her being pregnant and with Gomez.

'Dec 17th will never be the same, but we decide to celebrate her by writing her letters on red balloons and releasing them.'

Gomez's mother also celebrated the end of season two of 13 Reasons Why, on which she works as an executive producer with her famous daughter.

'Now the 17th is intertwined with the wrap of S2. So, she was there in spirit as always,' she wrote. 'A mom's love for their children is pretty fierce. In order of my girls, Selena, Scarlett and Gracie. Family is what matters, blood or not, #family13 made me smile and feel loved when so needed and they didn't know.'

Our thoughts go out to Selena's family during this difficult time.
