During a press conference yesterday in New York, dressed in a crystal embellished Gucci blazer, Elton John announced to the world that he will embark on one final tour before retirement. The tour, named 'Farewell Yellow Brick Road', will last for three years and will include 300 dates.

To all you Gucci addicts out there: prepare to drool because Elton has selected the fashion house's Creative Director, Alessandro Michele, to create all the glittery outfits for the tour's entirety.

Speaking of Michele, Elton explained how his designs remind him of his dear friend Gianni Versace – and let's not forget that the singer has been a source of inspiration to the designer since he took the helm at Gucci in 2015.

As you'll remember, Elton John is no stranger to outlandish stage costumery.

Feathered head-dresses, clown suits and jumpsuits are only a few of the iconic looks the singer has worn throughout the years. How can we not mention his pink Miss Piggy inspired costume? Or the magnificent 1973 all-white puffy outfit he wore during his performance at the Hollywood Bowl?

'I always thought I was going to be like Ray Charles, BB King - on the road forever,' said the singer during his tour announcement.

'My priorities in my life are now my children, my husband and my family.'

'When I stop, they will be 10 and eight and that's a very important time in their lives. I don't want to miss them, and I don't want them to miss me,' he added.

But don't despair, the singer's last tour will not signal the end of Sir Elton John. 'I'm not stopping music,' he said.

'I will hopefully be making more records, writing more music. Mostly I'll be taking my kids to soccer games. But I'll be creative, hopefully, until the day I die.'

'It's going to be the most produced, fantastic show I've ever done,' said the singer. And it surely will be iconic, especially with more of those fabulous Gucci blazers on the horizon.

'It's a way of saying thank you and going out with a bang. I don't want to go out with a whimper.'

The show will kick off in the US in September 2018 and will tour across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, South America and Australasia.

Tickets will go on sale on 2 February, but the initial show dates can already be found on Elton John's website.
