Depression is thought to be the second leading cause of disability worldwide, according to Mental Health.org.

And though many of us experience depression personally, or know someone close to us who does, there is still significant stigma around the subject.

As we all well know, brushing issues under the carpet rarely solves a problem, and not talking about this common and devastating illness is likely to make things worse, not better.

That's why our hearts melted when we saw this Reddit post called, 'My girlfriend suffers from, at times, crippling depression and anxiety. I saw this idea somewhere online and decided to make her something like it.'

The user 'bovadeez' accompanied the title with a photograph of a jar filled with coloured-in lollypop sticks. The colours correlated to a key which explained orange meant a quote, yellow is a reminder, pink is 'things to help you relax' and no colour meant she needed to 'add a memory'.

He explained that the quotes are, 'inspirational quotes from poets, political figures, philosophers, and humanitarians across time.' The reminders are,'positive words to help you through the day things like 'you're beautiful' and 'it's ok to ask for help'' and the tips to relax are like, 'take a break.'

The responses to the post praised the boyfriend on his inventive thinking, with many saying they might adopt this technique.

Different techniques work for different people, and hopefully this cute little trick at least shows his girlfriend that she has support from her partner.
