In the world of show business, it doesn't take much for news of a celebrity romance to have fans speculating about marriage, babies and artistic collaborations (see Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber's recent engagement rumours).

However, it doesn't help matters when a celebrity's close friend or parent starts hinting about wedding bells, as seen with Yolanda Hadid's recent conversation about her eldest daughter's future nuptials.

In an exclusive interview with MailOnline, the 54-year-old model has discussed a possible engagement between Gigi Hadid and boyfriend Zayn Malik.

Speaking of the model's two-year-long relationship with Zayn, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star admitted that she is happy to see her daughter so smitten with the singer.

'When you raise your children, I hope I instilled the best in them to make the right choices and turn to me and say "I love this man" then I'm going to love them too.

'This is their journey and I'm just here to support both of them as long as they make each other happy, working through things then I'm happy.'

Comparing the 25-year-old singer to family, the former model said: 'He's a beautiful human being from Bradford, England,' she explained. 'He's from the same background that I'm from, him and I get along great and he's like a son to me. It's all good.

'He has no family here and he's so far away so I understand that life because I lived that life. I think that I'm just a momma to him.'

But, when it comes to marriage, Hadid admitted she can't wait to see what's in store for the pair.

'We'll see, I truly believe they're all on their own journey,' she gushed. 'It's not in my hands anymore so I'm just sitting back and letting it all unfold.'

Yolanda shares three children, Gigi, Bella and Anwar, from her marriage to entrepreneur Mohamed Hadid, and has just launched her Lifetime series Making a Model with Yolanda Hadid.

The eight-part series follows six young aspiring models and their mothers as they travel to New York City to pursue their dreams of becoming a supermodel.

'The show is really about the love for a dream, every 13, 16, 17-year-old wants to be a model but they don't really understand what it takes to become a model and to actually live in that life,' the proud mother admits, after carving out her own career as a model in the '80s.

'Although these girls are too young to go out into the world and give it a shot, they've got the experience because this is their dream. It's a good times to understand that if you have a dream you have to be realistic and realistic expectations for that.'

Making a Model with Yolanda Hadid premieres on 8 February at 9pm, exclusively on Lifetime.
