Fresh off the Duke of Cambridge's stylish debut at the BAFTA Film Awards last year, and socialising with Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander in Sweden last week, Kate Middleton will be making a return to the red carpet at this year's ceremony.

Kensington Palace has confirmed that Prince William - who has been President of BAFTA since February 2010 - and Kate will meet BAFTA representatives and watch the ceremony hosted this year by Joanna Lumley.

William will present the prestigious Fellowship Award - the highest accolade bestowed by the Academy to an individual in recognition of an outstanding and exceptional contribution to film - to British filmmaker Sir Ridley Scott.

The royal couple have supported BAFTA's charitable activities by attending events across the charity's learning programmes, including Young Game Designers and BAFTA Kids events.

Kate - who is currently expecting her third child - made a memorable entrance on the red carpet last year in an an off-shoulder floor-length black floral gown by Alexander McQueen.

Meanwhile, it's being reported that guests at this year's ceremony are being encouraged to wear all black in solidarity with their US counterparts in recognition of the MeTo movement and Time's Up initiative.

According to Deadline, a letter has gone out to all invitees that asking that women wear black, and men wear 'special pins'.

Among the nominees are Margot Robbie, Allison Janney, Saoirse Ronan, Octavia Spencer, Lesley Manville, and Frances McDormand.

Stars at the Golden Globes in January stood shoulder-to-shoulder dressed in black, and some of the nominated actresses attended with activists to promote parity and gender equality in all workplaces.

BAFTA chair Jane Lush recently affirmed that the organisation 'wholeheartedly endorses' how the Golden Globes paid notice to the changes happening in Hollywood.

The EE BAFTA Film Awards will be held at the Royal Albert Hall on 18 February.
