This year, guests at the 2018 BAFTAs have reportedly been encouraged to wear all black to make a 'strong, unifying and simple statement' in recognition of the #MeToo movement and Time's Up initiative.

However, one woman who is facing a dilemma over her fashion choice for the ceremony is Kate Middleton, as she'll have to decide whether to make a political statement in black or risk being the only woman in the room wearing colour.

Following the announcement that Kate Middleton and Prince William will attend this year's BAFTA ceremony on Sunday 18 February, fans of the Duchess' fashion have began questioning whether the royal will wear black to show unity with the Time's Up movement.

After all, in keeping with royal protocol, the royal family has a policy of avoiding anything that could be seen as political statement.

The small handful of women who failed to adhere to the black dress code at last month's Golden Globes faced widespread criticism for their lack of support for the initiatives - something the Duchess will understandably want to avoid.

Last year, the 36-year-old - who is currently expecting her third child - made a memorable entrance on the red carpet in an an off-shoulder floor-length black floral gown by Alexander McQueen.

While the SAG Awards attendees didn't adopt the all-black dress code and BAFTA doesn't dictate a dress code for its event, the organisation's chair, Jane Lush, has said that BAFTA stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the movements for change.

Speaking at this year's nominations, she said it was a shift 'from #MeToo to #WeToo'.

'People are asking me, "Is everybody going to wear black?"' BAFTA chief executive Amanda Berry told Variety.

'I don't know the answer, but I assume that will now happen throughout the whole awards season. Look at how quickly it happened [at the Globes]. That was only a rumour a couple of weeks before, or a suggestion.'

The 2018 BAFTAs will be held on Sunday 18 February at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
