Netflix may have just secured the TV coup of the century following reports that the streaming service is in talks with the Obamas to produce a series of high-profile shows.

According to The New York Times, the former US president is currently in 'advanced negotiations' with Netflix for exclusive content which would only be available on the global service.

The format of the shows and number of episodes have not been decided yet, but it has been suggested that Obama will not use his Netflix programmes to respond to Donald Trump.

Instead, there's strong speculation that Obama and former First Lady Michelle want to create shows that present inspirational stories, which just cements our love for these two even more than we thought possible.

The NYT adds that while the Netflix deal won't be 'a direct answer' to Trump's Fox News or Breitbart.com, it would 'give Mr. Obama an unfiltered method of communication with the public'.

Obama has 101 million Twitter followers, 17.1 million Instagram followers, and 55 million people who have liked his Facebook page.

Eric Schultz, a senior adviser to the former president, told the publication: 'President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire.

'Throughout their lives, they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better.

'As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories.'

One show idea could focus on topics that dominated Obama's presidency including health care, voting rights, immigration, foreign policy, and climate change.

Another program could centre on nutrition, which Michelle advocated in the White house.

Either way, we will definitely be watching.
