After being absent from one another's social media accounts for about a month, they have confirmed they are no longer together.

Malik, who is 25 years-old, detailed on his Twitter how important their relationship was to him, thanking fans for their continued support.

He wrote, 'Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving and fun relationship, and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and a friend,' on Twitter. 'She has such an incredible soul. I'm grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at the time, we wish this news could have come from us first. We love you all. xZ'

Hadid, 22-years-old, showed similar maturity, penning a particularly personal note about the young couple's love and friendship. She also hinted at a possible reconciliation, hopefully pointing to their ongoing respect and care for each other.

She wrote, 'Breakup statements often seem impersonal because there is really no way to put into words what two people experience together over a few years .. not only in the relationship, but in life in general. I'm forever grateful for the love, time, and life lessons that Z and I shared. I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for. As for the future, whatever's meant to be will always be. xG.'

Fans are understandably upset about the ending of the romantic relationship - the pair shared a lot, including their faith and fame. However, it looks as though this is far from the end of the road when it comes to their friendship.
