For anyone who has or is considering keeping their maiden name if they get married, let Chrissy Teigen's words of wisdom serve as your perfect rebuke for anyone who dares question your decision.

A Twitter user took to social media to write: 'I'd really like to hear the reasoning behind women who won't take their husband's last name.'

And despite the message being tweeted in August 2017, Teigen has now responded to the post to explain she didn't take her husband John Legend's name because he 'didn't even take his last name'.

Legend was legally born John Roger Stephens, before taking his now well-known surname as a stage name when he started his singing career.

Even if Teigen wanted to – which she didn't, by the way, and why should she? – she couldn't have taken her husband's name because he didn't even want to keep his surname.

She went onto explain that she doesn't see 'how the choice affects anyone else' and it wasn't a 'grand statement' not to take his surname. She just didn't, which is just as much a valid and logical reason, as anyone who decides to take their partner's name.

Besides, Teigen is a household name in her own right – she doesn't need her husband's to qualify her marital status or identity.

An alternative question here is why many men decide not to take their wive's names on marriage.

Fortunately, hundreds of the model's fans responded to her tweet voicing supporting for her decision.

Whether you decided to take your partner's name or not, it's no one else's business.
