From a group of female Afghan robotic technicians and Hollywood actors to upcoming models, poets and fashion designers, we take a look at the men and women who are set to make waves in their industries in 2018:

Having starred in Baywatch with Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron last year, actress Ilfenesh Hadera has already made waves in the film and entertainment industry. However, with news that her Spike Lee-directed comedy-drama television series, She's Gotta Have It, has been renewed for a second season and rumours she's been shortlisted to become a Bond Girl in the upcoming 007 film, we have a feeling 2018 is set to be a big year for the 32-year-old New Yorker.

Timothée Chalamet

If there's one name you won't be able to avoid this it'll most certainly be Timothée Chalamet's. The former boyfriend of Madonna's daughter Lourdes is dominating Hollywood this year, having just stared in Oscar-tipped film Call Me by Your Name and scooping the Breakthrough Actor trophy at the Gotham Awards.

Speaking of his co-star, Armie Hammer recently told Vulture: 'Timmy is, without a doubt, the most emotionally accessible human being I have ever come across in my life.'m With previous roles in Homeland, Interstellar, Greta Gerwig's Lady Bird and a job opposite Selena Gomez is Woody Allen's upcoming film, 2018 might as well be called the year of Chalamet.

You may remember last year when a group of a robotics team from Afghanistan made headlines after having their visas temporarily denied in the run-up to a robotics contest in the U.S. In the months that followed, the group took home a top prize at Robotex, Europe's largest robotics festival, for their solar-powered rob, designed for use on farms.

This year proves to be yet another groundbreaking moment for the women who are planning to venture back to he US in May to compete for funding and the chance to start their own robotics company. The future is theirs.

The 28-year-old Londoner received a debut Golden Globe nomination for his role in Get Out, decimating a black man's struggle when visiting the rural home of his white girlfriend's parents where racism is exposed.

Expressing his disbelief at the nod, Kaluuya describes the accolade as having occurred 'against innumerable odds', joining another two nominations for a SAG and Critics' Choice award. Having just nabbed an acting award at the 2018 Palm Springs International Film Festival and roles Marvel's upcoming film Black Panther alongside Forest Whitaker and Martin Freeman, something tells us the odds are in Kaluuya's favour this year.

At the age of 21, Rodriguez went into early menopause following radiation therapy for colorectal cancer, prompting her to encourage women to explore and own their sexuality.

With approximately $2.7 million raised so far, the tech entrepreneur's app is set to change the female sexual pleasure industry forever.

While we won't see her play the famous role in the live action film opposite Will Smith and Mena Massoud, it's about time we get this 24-year-old on our radars in preparation.

With a new restaurant planned for the first half of the year and the return of her International Women's Day celebration, which last year saw London's best female chefs come together to mark their female culinary inspirations, it looks like there's no stopping the Australian culinary star this year.

In a recent interview with Olive Magazine, she said: 'I'm looking forward to bringing something different to [London] with my second restaurant – it will still be Balls & Company, but there will be a bigger focus on our bar concept.'

Shocked by this news she started the #FreePeriods campaign, which petitions the UK Government to give free sanitary products to those on free school meals.

The campaign already has been supported by MPs such as Jess Philips and Sarah Olney and had a successful peaceful protest in Parliament square in December, which was attended by the likes of Adwoa Aboah and Daisy Lowe.

Rakel Mjöll, Alice Go  and Bella Podpadec make up the subversive punk group Dream Wife with songs such as 'Let's Make Out.'

From Reykjavik, Brighton and London respectively the rockers started their band as an ironic art project. They wrote songs for their fake band and made a mockumentary in the vein of Spinal Tap for an art project, only for the joke to continue, booking gigs around the UK and becoming real.

2017 saw the threesome release a self-titled EP with killer music videos to match. Their album is out early this year and we can't wait.

Ms Banks

When Nicki Minaj gives the nod of approval to a new rapper, we jolly well pay attention.

Back in November Minaj took to Twitter to quote some of South London native Ms Banks' lyrics. Minaj is one of Banks' many influences (Ms Dynamite, Estelle, Lauryn Hill being some of the others) and the news elated the young rapper.

Ms Banks (real name Tyra Banks) has already toured with 2017's rapping wonder Cardi B, so it looks like her dreams of making her South London sound go global might just happen.
