If you didn't secure a place in the Virgin London Marathon for 2015, don't worry you’re not alone. It’s notoriously tough to get in (it’s like the Oxford University of the race world).

So, here’s a list of marathons you can secure a place in today instead:

Asics Greater Manchester Marathon, 19 April.

Claims to be the UK’s ‘flattest, fastest and friendliest marathon’. The finish is at the Manchester United Football Club; expect good crowd support.
Cost: £50.

Edinburgh Marathon, 31 May.

The route is ‘flat and fast’ ideal if this is your first marathon or if you’re looking to PB.
Cost: £54.54.

Royal Parks Richmond Park Marathon 17 May.

‘Undulating and hilly’ best describes the course, but the natural beauty of the park should keep your mind off that. A small race – just 400 spaces, so sign-up early.
Cost: £32.

Stour Valley Marathon, 7 June.

An off-road trail run, there are not many markers and technically it comes in just over the standard 26.2 miles. The area is famous thanks to the paintings of John Constable so expect it to be a beautiful race.
Cost: £21.

Baxters Loch Ness Marathon, 27 September.

Breath-taking scenery (pictured) and a hot meal awaiting you at the finish line, this is one for your running bucket list.
Cost: £45.
