Apparently active or ‘Tough Girl’ hen parties are growing in popularity. We kind of already knew this since ELLE’s own bride-to-be Fern Ross had a very active hen do, and I’m very up for an action-packed weekend when mine rolls around.

Fern didn’t just do one activity, she did three – GoApe, white water rafting (she's the one in the red helmet) and the ‘Fernikus Olympics’ (your guess is as good as mine).

‘I'm a really active, sporty person who loves being outdoors and finds it impossible to sit still,’ explains Fern. ‘Also, it sounds cheesy, but doing challenging things with your friends is a bonding experience, too. And we got drunk in the hot tub back at the house afterwards!

‘The best bit was doing the 480ft zipwire across a valley in Perthshire. The view of the rolling hills and late-afternoon sun was breathtaking it was totally exhilarating. All of us were on a real high afterwards.'

Says Poppy Ratcliffe, Event Director at GoHen, ‘Everything from coasteering and rafting to assault courses and tank driving are on the tough girls’ hit list and more and more hens want more extreme activities.’

On the GoHen website you can choose from a selection of activites such as Inflatable Games (a giant obstacle course), Sea Kayaking, Kite Surfing or Bobsleigh.
