As we near the end of 2014, many will consider this a time for reflection and looking back at what we’ve learned… Well, Google’s just made this A LOT easier by revealing a rather humorous list of the year in Internet searches. Here’s what we discovered…

We love… love

Google revealed that ‘How to kiss’, and ‘What is love’ topped searches, as well as the slightly less romantic ‘How to twerk’ (and no, we still don’t know the answer). The results also showed that we’re all about learning the new skills, with many keen to master ‘how to draw’, ‘how to crochet’, and ‘how to knit’. We can lend a helping hand; follow us on Twitter and Instagram at @ELLEUKMAKES.

We love weird food

Whether it’s Swedish Princess Cake (yes, it’s a real thing, and bright green, filled with whipped cream, custard and jam) or Hunter’s Chicken (a BBQ sauce, chicken breasts, cheese and bacon combo), apparently we went nuts for foodie trends in 2014.

We love the selfie

2014. Officially the year of the selfie. How do we know? Google has revealed the top ten varieties - yes, we repeat, varieties of ‘selfie’ searches. Amongst them, the ‘no makeup selfie’, that famous ‘Oscar selfie’, and, drumroll please, the queen herself: the Kim Kardashian selfie.

We love our cover stars

Well, the cover of our January issue (on sale now) could have told you that we love Kim Kardashian, but it turns out that Google has also confirmed this, as the reality star was one of the top rising female celebrities searched. Breaking the internet? Close.

Our beautiful and brilliant December cover star, Emma Watson was also revealed as one of the most searched female celebs. Well, between her acting roles and inspirational philanthropic work – who could blame us?

And a triple whammy came in the form of the revelation that amongst the most searched male celebs of 2014, are a roster of our special male cover stars. Yes, David Beckham (our first ever male ELLE cover in July 2012), Pharrell Williams (on our July 2014 issue), and, of course, Benedict Cumberbatch (on our December 2014 issue). See them all here.
