Missed the 72nd annual Golden Globes last night? No problem. Join us as we take a look at all our favourite moments, featuring everything from photobombing to political activism, to a game of 'Would you rather…?'
If you didn’t already know, congratulations are in order to Eddie Redmayne, who scooped the Best Actor award for his role in Stephen Hawking biopic, The Theory of Everything. A well-deserved win - see his ELLE cover here.
We all know that Benedict Cumberbatch is partial to the odd photobomb – remember his big moment at the 2014 Academy Awards? But what we didn’t expect was an elated repeat at the Golden Globes… In particular, we didn’t expect the unknowing recipient to be Meryl Streep.
Tina and Amy: presenters extraordinaire
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler demonstrated their comedic prowess yet again, in their third and final year as Golden Globe presenters. Bouncing off each other, their tear-inducing introductory speech included gentle jibes at the expense of Emma Stone, George Clooney, Joaquin Phoenix, as well as a hilarious game of ‘Would you rather…?’
Many stars – including George and Amal Clooney, Diana Kruger, Kathy Bates and Helen Mirren - used the opportunity to express their support for freedom of expression after the recent attacks on French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, adopting the ‘Je Suis Charlie’ slogan on badges and banners.
As if we needed any more reason to love George Clooney, his tribute to wife and human rights lawyer, Amal, during his Lifetime Achievement Award speech, has us fully hooked forever. Turning the tables and downplaying his own achievements, Clooney praised his his wife, saying: ‘It’s a humbling thing when you find someone to love, even better if you’ve been waiting your whole life. And when your whole life is 53 years — Tina and Amy, start the jokes — Amal, whatever alchemy that brought us together, I couldn’t be more proud to be your husband.’
