Potter fans will be pleased to hear that JK Rowling is bringing a Harry Potter spinoff to the London stage in 2016. Called Harry Potter and the Cursed Childit will premiere at the Palace Theatre on Shaftesury Avenue next summer.

Rowling broke the news on Twitter this morning, when she wrote: ‘It will tell a new story, which is the result of a collaboration between writer Jack Thorne, director John Tiffany and myself. I don't want to say too much more, because I don't want to spoil what I know will be a real treat for fans. However, I can say that it is not a prequel!’

Although we're used to seeing Harry and crew on the big screen, Rowling says the stage makes the most sense for her latest work: ‘I am confident that when audiences see the play, they will agree that it was the only proper medium for the story.'
