Anatomy of JLo’s birthday suit

A very little black dress and beyond

Here is what we can learn from Jennifer Lopez on her 46th Birthday.

When in doubt, bob: A choppy bob is and always will be an anti-ageing choice. It says sophisticated but playful and it frames your face in such a way as to define your jawline and, tonged away from the face, emphasises cheekbones.

Highlight: This light brown-blonde (bronde) is the colour du jour, but then JLo has been pioneering it for some years now. The added shimmery highlights make skin appear more radiant and gives a general glowy aura.

Don’t forget your back: J-Lo would have undoubtedly had a spray tan, but the very precisely contoured face bronzer has done wonders for her radiant complexion, but taken the colour up a notch.

Blend your lipliner: The early 90’s pale lipstick, dark liner thing wasn’t great the first time around. We’re not sure she’s going to succeed in bringing it back, but damn if anyone can pull it off, J-Lo can. Pretty much.

Boost your boobs: Highlighter is a wonderful thing. Dusted down the front of your décolleté especially. In a very tight low cut bust-boosting dress, even more so.

Never stop crunching: Ever. Not even when it’s your birthday and you want to eat all the cake instead of do your 1000 sit-ups. Only if you want to wear this kind of dress well into your fourth decade mind you. Otherwise, eat some cake and chill on the sofa a few more times than not.

Skip the knickers: It’s her party and she can go commando if she wants to.

Show off your best asset: Own your bottom. Own it so much that you can cover it in, essentially, 10 denier sheer tights, and allow a million people to take your photo with confidence.

Hats off to you J-Lo and happy happy birthday.
