We all know Ellen DeGeneres as one of the funniest chat show hosts on TV.

But what you might not know is that she gave the most heart-warming speech at the Teen Choice Awards last night, and shared with us all some really great advice.

We think that she’s a total hero, and her speech definitely backs us up.

Here’s what she told the audience when she won the Choice Comedian award:

1. Teens make good choices

‘They say that teens make bad decisions but you made a very good decision tonight by choosing me. That was smart, smart, smart, smart.’

2. Yesterday was her 7 year anniversary with Portia de Rossi

“What an amazing day this is. This is my seven year wedding anniversary, so happy anniversary”

3. It’s okay to be different

'It feels good to be chosen, but there was a time in my life where I was not chosen. I was the opposite of chosen because I was different, and I think I wanna make sure that everyone knows that what makes you different right now, makes you stand out later in life.’

4. Fitting in is not important

'You should be proud of being different. You should be proud of who you are … Being unique is very, very important, and fitting in is not really all that matters. It's being unique and being who you are.’

5. And most importantly… Be unique.

“The most important thing I wanna say is just really embrace who you are because being unique is very, very important and fitting in is not all that matters.”
