When money is no object, and your wife has all the things in the world ever, what does one buy for a birthday present?

That was the scenario Jay Z found himself in last week when he was faced with what to buy Beyoncé for her 34th birthday. We imagine it was a bit of a high pressure situation. (She probably already has a few private islands.) So it was a surprise to see Jay Z take the free and sentimental route.

Don’t call him a cheapskate, though. What the gift lacked in bling, Jay made up for in cool points: he and the rest of Beyoncé’s nearest and dearest collaborated on one big birthday playlist, complete with personalised song dedications from each of them.

The list, which Beyoncé shared on her official Tumblr, includes song dedications from her parents Tina ('Home' by Stephanie Mills) and Matthew ('Here I Go Again' by Smokey Robinson), sister Solange ('Holy Ghost' by Kim Burrell) and a few past Destiny's Children, family members and friends.

But obviously, we’re most interested in the selection from Jay Z.

So, what did he pick from his seemingly eidetic musical memory? Something edgy? Something amazingly obscure? Or so cool it hasn’t even been released yet? No, he picked Coldplay. Coldplay's ‘Yellow’.

He said: 'This song reminds me of you and I on vacation. "Look at the stars, look how they shine for you." So many legendary nights. It represents vulnerability; it's us in our own world, away from work and totally lost in love. "For you, I'll bleed myself dry."'

Blue Ivy's choice was one notch cooler with Jodi Benson's 'Part Of Your World' from The Little Mermaid soundtrack, saying, "Mommy you sung this to me all the time. Happy birthday, Mommy!’ This will be our soundtrack for the rest of the day. Thank you Blue Ivy.
