Lady Gaga's illustrious career has included selling 28 million albums, winning six Grammy Awards and now being named Billboard's Woman of the Year.

The music industry publication will bestow its highest honor on the popstar at the culmination of its Women in Music event this year.

Billboard is holding the celebration at Cipriani Midtown in New York City on December 11, with Lifetime airing highlights on December 18.

"We're delighted to partner with Billboard on this special event, bringing it to a mass audience for the first time ever," Lifetime executive vice president Liz Gateley said today (September 29).

"Lady Gaga is an extraordinary artist, emblematic of the strength, courage and fortitude that Lifetime celebrates, and we are thrilled to offer our platform to recognise her in every way she deserves."

Gaga seemed genuinely moved by the honor, tweeting: "I can't believe @billboard named me Woman of the year thank you so much. I am so so so so grateful. My gosh good morning!"
