The reigning queen of shock factor, Miley Cyrus, has just surprised fans with a different kind of feat: a power ballad. 'Hands of Love' is her anthem for the new film Freeheld, which opens in cinemas today in the States. The movie, starring Julianne Moore and Ellen Page, is based on the story of Laurel Hester, who fought to get her pension passed on to her partner after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

After hosting the VMAs in an outrageous wardrobe and dropping a trippy free album at its close (featuring songs like 'F**in F**ed Up' and 'I'm So Drunk'), Cyrus shows a tamer—and more emotional side—with this pro-LGBTQ anthem. Promoting gay rights isn't a new endeavour for the singer, though. Her Happy Hippie Foundation supports LGBTQ youth, among other vulnerable groups.
