Well, sort of going to the moon, but Ryan Gosling is being lined up to play the original Man on the Moon™ Neil Armstrong in an upcoming biopic of the astronaut's life.

Word on the street is that Whiplash director Damien Chazelle is to take the reigns on the film, which is based on a book titled First Man: The Life of Neil A Armstrong.

Gosling and Chazelle are currently working together on a musical romance titled La La Land, which also stars Gosling’s Gangster Squad co-star Emma Stone. The movie, described as a tribute to the Los Angeles, sees Gosling play a charming jazz pianist called Sebastian and Stone as a lonely, aspiring actress named Mia.

But in case you were getting excited to see Ryan back on screen and in space, the film is set to coincide with the 50th anniversary of 1969 the moon landings, so won't be released until 2019.

I guess we'll have to make do with rewatching The Notebook for the next four years.
