This week it was reported that the new application for divorce between Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and hubby of equally lengthy name might have had something to do with the amount of affection she has been bestowing on her chihuahuas Buster and Coco.
You know the age old story: girl meets boy, girl and boy fall in love, one party impulsively buys an adorable dog to cement their relationship, they both become Instagram dog over-sharers, the dog inevitably loves one more than the other, the other gets jealous, they break up and the poor little dog play piggie in the middle for the foreseeable future.
First came Jake Gyllenhaal and Kirsten Dunst – the power couple of the pre iPhone naughties fought tooth and nail over who would get to keep custody of their beloved German Shepherd Atticus.
Then came Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson who veered away from a Twilight themed wolf-style dog and instead opted for an adorable rescue dog Bear. Then they decided they wanted to add more to the brood by way of Bernie and Bailey. Let's just say the dog Skype sessions are sadly no more.
More recently, David Walliams and Lara Stone played out their dog feud over Instagram, with both of them sharing as many images of sweet little Bert as possible. Total tallies yet to be decided.
