Legendary punk singer Patti Smith shared her incredible life story in her bestselling memoir, 'Just Kids,' which documented her time in New York, her relationship with Robert Mapplethorpe and their journey from struggling artists to successful icons.

It, therefore, comes as no suprise that a biopic celebrating her life is in the works, but WAIT there's even more good news.

It's been announced that our favourite 'Girls' star, Zosia Mamet has been selected to play the role of Patti.

Cue Shoshanna's infamous catchphrase: 'Oh. My. God.'

The upcoming film, entitled Mapplethorpe, will focus on the complex relationship between Smith and the iconic photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, whom she lived, loved and collaborated with.

Alongside Zosia, Doctor Who's Matt Smith will take on the role of Robert, who died from Aids-related illnesses in 1989.

Written and directed by the award-winning documentary filmmaker Ondi Timoner, the film is scheduled to begin shooting this summer.

'After several years of developing this script and searching across the globe for the perfect talent to embody the rich and layered roles of visionary artists Robert Mapplethorpe and Patti Smith, I am ecstatic to have found Matt Smith and Zosia Mamet.’

‘They will bring indelible passion, raw humanity, and authenticity to this timeless, inspiring story.’

Lena Dunham recently joked to reporters that series six of Girls will be the final season because 'they're all in Star Wars and stuff!' and with Zosia already nailing a prominent (and very cool) lead role, her future film career looks very promising indeed.

We can't wait to see Zosia's performance in the finished result.
