Harper Lee, the author of the seminal 1961 novel To Kill A Mocking Bird has died in Monroeville, Alabama.

If you did GCSE English, chances are you studied the story of Atticus Finch, a lawyer in the Depression-era South, who defends a black man against an undeserved rape charge, and his kids against prejudice.

Last year, Lee released Go Set A Watchman, which picks up 20 years after the events chronicled in Mockingbird, and features a grown-up NewYork-based Scout who returns to Alabama to visit her lawyer father, Atticus. The novel the novel sold more than 105,000 copies in its first day on sale in the UK.
