It's happened. It's finally happened.

Everyone's favourite serial on-screen sobber Leonardo DiCaprio has won an Academy Award for Best Actor in The Revenant at The Oscars 2016.

His speech was a brilliant mix of humble gratitude, but also a nod towards an issue that he has for years expressed passion for - that of climate change.

He invoked his power to call on people to make the world a safer place for indigenous communities, ending with the powerful lines:

'Do not take this planet for granted, do not take tonight for granted.'

Leonardo Dicaprio has won a grand total of 45 awards now, so he has hardly gone uncelebrated throughout his seriously impressive career.

His winnings include a treasure trove of three Golden Globes, two Screen Actor Guild Awards and two Teen Choice awards. That’s a lot of heavy metal sitting on a mantlepiece somewhere.

His Oscars nominations have included Best Suporting Actor in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, and Best Actor for The Aviator, Blood Diamond and The Wolf of Wall Street.

His Best Actor nomination for The Revenant has come with a lot of support from his celebrity mates.

Kate Winslet had, of course, been falling over herself to gush about his extreme deserving of an Academy Award.

Super songstress Adele left him a cute Titanic based note on Twitter, wishing him luck:

And his eternal chase of the Academy Awards dream has been memed to oblivion by the internet.

But he can finally rest at ease as this evening he ambles off into the sunset looking a little like this:
