Hippie-hop is a thing. Just ask seventies-psychedelic-inspired artist Iris Gold, 25. A kaleidoscope of colour and style, Copenhagenborn Iris rose to fame when her debut track, Goldmine, which fuses hip-hop and R&B-driven beats, was released in 2015. Since then she’s landed support slots on tour with Taylor Swift, Robbie Williams and Blur. With an album release on the horizon, the sound of summer has come early.

5 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT IRIS GOLD

1. She was raised in a commune. 'My mum was a hippie and I grew up in a commune in Christiania, Copenhagen, surrounded by the music of Jimi Hendrix, The Mamas & the Papas, and Jefferson Airplane. There was a lot of love and it’s hugely influenced my creativity.’

2. Taylor Swift is already a fan.‘No, I’m not part of the squad – yet. But she listened tomymusic and she liked it. That’s why I was on her bill and that was good enough for me.’

3.  Her songs started as poems. ‘From the age of five I would write poems. I had an alter ego called Sally who was a pirate with a flock of invisible animal friends; I’d tell them all stories. Goldmine is about the adventures of Pirate Sally.’

4. She’s obsessedwithAndré 3000. ‘I’d freak out if Imet him, let alone get to do a duet. I like his lyrics, I like his voice, I like his clothes, I like his abs.’

5. She’d like to wear pjyamas every day. ‘They’re so comfy. I wore them all day yesterday. I like wearing tropical stuff, things with flowers and colours. It makes me feel bright when it’s grey outside.’
