The standard was high for finding someone to play Rey in the new Star Wars films when Daisy Ridley came along and auditioned.

"What we were looking for was someone new," director J.J. Abrams explains. "This character needed to be vulnerable and tough, sweet and terrified. And to find someone that no one knew who could do all these things took a lot of looking." But then the actress read the scene where Rey fights Kylo Ren trying to break into her mind. And Abrams knew this was the girl: "She's reaching this depth of struggle, and tears are streaming down her face. I thought, 'This is unbelievable.'"
