The day has FINALLY come - we are on the verge, the very precipice of being able to send a fingers crossed emoji to friends.

We've waited a long time for this and, of course, for the face-palm to be resurrected in unicode form, so you can imagine how thrilled we are that unicode have announced the arrival of 72 new emojis, soon winging their way to a smartphone keyboard near you.

As well as the face-palm, you'll be able to send a shrug and fist-pound and, for lovers of not-so-subtle innuendo, a carrot and a courgette.

Avocados have been a long time coming to the unicode keyboard, considering their popularity has all but peaked and started to wane (we're waiting for the peony emoji to present itself).

Lucky for emoji fans, these new symbols are meant to be part of a software update this month, so you won't have to wait very long before you start using them.

What we still really want to see, though, are more emojis representing professional women.

Bacon rashers are all very well, but where are the female CEOs?

Come on Unicode - get on it.
