Mahershala Ali has had quite the year so far: He became a father for the very first time, and then he went and won an Oscar for his breathtaking turn in Moonlight.

Now the 43-year-old actor has shared a picture of his adorable baby daughter Bari Najma Ali on Instagram one month on, and we can't stop cooing.

He added the caption, "Bari x Abu", along with a purple heart motif.

The black and white image sees the star holding tiny Bari with both hands on his lap as they bond together at home.

Fans were are also delighted with the snap, with many congratulating Ali and his wife Amatus Sami-Karim on the arrival of their little girl.

The couple welcomed Bari just four days before the Academy Awards, where Ali picked up Best Supporting Actor and made history as the first Muslim to win an Oscar.

He thanked Sami-Karim - who was at home with their newborn - during his acceptance speech, telling the audience: "Lastly, I want to thank my wife, who was in her third trimester during the awards season.

"We just had a daughter four days ago."

And speaking about fatherhood to E!'s Ryan Seacrest at the annual ceremony's red carpet, he revealed: "I'm a special kind of tired right now.

"It's amazing though. I'm very grateful... [She was born on the] 22nd and now we are here.

"She was running late and was supposed to be here the 13th so we started getting concerned but she is here and healthy."

Ali had previously shared a picture of his wife cradling Bari shortly after her birth back in February.
