The mysterious standoff between Lost City of Oz co-stars Robert Pattinson and Charlie Hunnam is nearly as intriguing as the plot of their true life drama.
It all started when the Sons of Anarchy star admitted he wasn't sure whether Pattinson "genuinely" didn't like him, or was just "in the zone" when they filmed James Gray's adventure biopic.
"I had a couple of rehearsal sessions with Sienna [Miller], but I didn't spend any time with Tom [Holland] or Robert [Pattinson]," Hunnam told Screen Daily.
"I wanted these relationships to evolve naturally on screen. Through the work, I don't think I said more than ten words to Robert [Pattinson] off camera. I didn't know if he was just 'in that zone' or if he genuinely didn't like me.
"There was a real distance between us. But it creates the right dynamic on screen. He's reached out to me subsequently, making overtures for us to be friends now, so I think it was about the work."
Now Pattinson has responded by denying (ish) giving Hunnam the cold shoulder on set, telling ET: "I didn't ignore him.
"Well, whatever, maybe.. I thought he was ignoring me."
He added: "I don't know. It was just the two of us in the hotel."
And is it just us or do the pair look slightly awkward standing next to one other in photos from the recent Hollywood screening of the film? R-Pattz just doesn't know what to do with his hands...
But now Hunnam is claiming the whole "not speaking to each other thing" was method acting, as they wanted to create a real tension between the characters on screen.
"There was something really exciting about the idea of not knowing someone, just letting a relationship exist exclusively on the screen," he's since told ET.
"So, I had decided that I wanted to do that, but sometimes that can be alienating, and [can] put another actor off of their work and I don't want to be that selfish.
He said that the Twilight star "played the game right back", and despite the former frosty atmosphere between them, there's no longer any "beef" between the pair.
"I started playing this game with Rob and he just started playing it right back," Hunnam now affirms.
"I think we both really understood what we were doing and there was no real contention or beef between us - we were just playing the game."
He also dismissed any animosity between them, and said he's definitely up for hanging with Pattinson, now filming is over.
"It's nice actually to come out of that fog of the production and see that he's a lovely guy. I can actually enjoy having a drink with him now and a hang," he added.
The Lost City of Oz follows the true story of British explorer Col. Percival Fawcett [Hunnam], who disappeared on the hunt for a mysterious city in the Amazon in the 1920s.
