Speaking from the set of The Late Late Show not long after recording his latest episode, James Corden addressed audiences in America and back home to express his shock at the terror attack which killed 22 people at a concert in Manchester last night.
The presenter talked about the things that make the city famous - football, music and being the home of inventions like the computer - and of the 'comedy, curries, character and sense of community' that binds its people together.
Holding back tears he also said: "It shocks me every time we hear this sort of news that attacks like this can happen, but especially when there will be so many children at this concert tonight."
The attack, which took place at Ariana Grande's show at Manchester Arena, has killed 22 people including children and injured at least 59 others.
Police chief constable Ian Hopkins explained the attack was carried out by a lone man, who died at the scene.
In a statement to press, he said: "This has been the most horrific incident we have had to face in Greater Manchester and one that we all hoped we would never see."
