While there are plenty of British actress who could do the job, it's fair to say Charlize Theron would make a pretty great first female James Bond. And Chris Hemsworth couldn't agree more.

The Thor star recently told W magazine: 'Well, I've made the comment that Charlize Theron should be the next Bond because she scares the hell out of me.

'And I think she could beat the sh*t out of me and most villains out there. She embodies every ounce of strength and nobility and dignity and integrity that that character should have. She's smart as hell. She's physically able.

'You know, working with her on those fight scenes [in Snow White and the Huntsman], [and her] doing it in high heels by the way - and an 8-foot long gown - was even more impressive,' he added.

'And I think she could beat the s**t out of me and most villains out there. She embodies every ounce of strength and nobility and dignity and integrity that that character should have.

The actress – who recently opened up about the challenges of gaining and losing weight for her up-coming film Tully – had the best response to her former co-star's comments at her recent Atomic Blonde premiere in Berlin, joking to ET: 'Chris - so, you got that cheque I sent you?'

She continued: 'Oh wow. That's so insanely generous and nice. I don't even know what to do with that. That's really sweet.'

Theron plays an undercover MI6 agent in new action thriller Atomic Blonde, sent on a mission to Berlin during the Cold War to investigate the murder of a fellow agen, and has been praised by the film's director and stuntmen on her fighting ability and strength.

'Let's hope Atomic Blonde kicks some butt,' she said of her current role as the indestructible Lorraine Broughton. 'I love this character [and] I would love to explore this character again.

'All of the talk around it I find very flattering, but it's a little overwhelming, you know? All of it is really great, but a little overwhelming,' she revealed.

It's been reported that Daniel Craig will be reprising his role as 007 for the fifth and final time (via The Independent), with Theron adding: 'Daniel, you got the job.

'I am not going to take that job away from you,' she joked.

Well, you could at least fight him for it, Charlize?

We'd back you.
