The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's whistle-stop tour of Germany continued on day four of their official visit with a trip to historic Heidelberg.
After their first stop at the German Cancer Research Institute, the royal couple met with the mayor of the town, which is twinned with Cambridge in the UK.
They were given a tour of a traditional German market in the town square and got the chance to sample some of the region's food and drink.
As usual, the Duke and Duchess didn't hold back with getting stuck in, and were invited to make some of the treats on offer.
After a sweetie-making session, an apprentice baker gave them a quick lesson in the art of pretzels and by the looks of things, that's when the visit got a little more competitive.
While Kate tried her best to concentrate on creating the knotted bread, William had other ideas...
Still, the competitive spirit came in useful later in the day, when the couple competed in a boat race on the River Neckar. Kate, who changed out of her summery Jenny Packham dress into a striped top and jeans, sat happily in the stern and looked like a true pro as she prepared to race her husband's team.
As for the winner? Following his success at dragon boat racing in Canada, Kensington Palace confirmed that it was Prince William who was victorious once again. Isn't it the taking part that counts?
