Diplo has revealed he's desperate to collaborate with Rihanna, but when he tried to impress her with one of his tracks at 4am in the morning, she said it sounded like a 'reggae song at an airport'.

Does the superstar care? Probably not. But, hey, at least she's apologised.

Well, sort of.

The DJ and producer had previously said he wants Rihanna on a Major Lazer track, but she's one of the trickiest artists to pin down.

'She's like the one artist that we can't ever get,' he told GQ. 'I think before we're all done, she'll be on a song of ours.

'Hopefully. But if not, I don't really care. I played her Lean On. She was like, I don't do house music. I face-palmed so hard on that one. Another time I had a session with her, and Future was also invited. The Weeknd was there.

'Metro Boomin was there before anybody knew who he was. I was so contact high. Future played her, like, 700 songs. It was four in the morning. Finally, I was like, Yo, G, I'm leaving unless you let me play her a song. So I played her a song. And she was like, 'This sounds like a reggae song at an airport'. [laughs] I was like, I'm gonna go kill myself.'

And now the singer has responded with an apology of sorts on Instagram, but couldn't resist adding the hash tag 'DutyFree' and a handful of crying-laughing emoji.

'#DutyFree πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ My bad @diplo,' she captioned the pic of herself next to the DJ.

Maybe that's a yes?

Meanwhile, Rihanna returned to her hometown to attend the island's traditional harvest festival, and did not disappoint with some pretty stunning outfits.

Riri, you salute you.
