"With absolute love and respect we decided to separate as a couple earlier this year," the couple said in a joint statement provided to People. "To give our family the best opportunity to adjust, we wanted to keep this a private matter before sharing it with the public. We are and will always be united in our support of each other and our family."
The couple has a 4-year-old son, Axl. They celebrated their 8th anniversary in January:
